Disney to launch hotel chain in Canada

A major Canadian hotel chain will open a boutique hotel in the country’s new capital city, announcing plans Friday to open by summer 2018.

The Walt Disney Co. will be opening a boutique in Vancouver’s Chinatown and a more upscale resort hotel in Vancouver Island, the company announced in a statement.

The announcement comes as the world’s largest hotel chain is looking to expand in Canada and other countries that will be part of the $10 billion North American Free Trade Agreement.

Disney’s decision to open a new boutique hotel and resort hotel comes as it plans to add another 40 new hotel and hotel resorts to its portfolio, including a $1 billion resort in Shanghai.
