Manhattan Hotel closes after 2,700 injuries

NEW YORK — The man charged in the attack on a Manhattan hotel is accused of repeatedly raping a woman inside the hotel.

In a statement issued Tuesday, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton said a hotel manager found the woman unconscious on Dec. 1 and called police after seeing her bleeding from a head wound and needing emergency medical treatment.

She was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.

The alleged rapist was charged on Monday.

Bratton said the hotel manager, who has not been identified, was cooperating with authorities and will be held without bail.

He said the case remains under investigation.

The statement did not give a time frame for the hotel to reopen.

Bratts statement said the man had been arrested on a separate assault charge, and the investigation is ongoing.

It was not immediately clear whether the man was the same man who attacked the hotel on Dec 5.
